Quartz Mountain fire under control, acres scorched

ALTUS, Okla.- A grass fire that was consuming acres of land near Altus is now under control.

Firefighters battled smoke and flames for nearly 24 hours as fire tore through Quartz Mountain Park in Greer County.

Officials say they are not sure how much land the fire destroyed but it could be close to 1,000 acres.

Crews finally got the upper hand on the fire Sunday afternoon.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and no homes were damaged in the fire.

Authorities say they are still trying to determine what started the blaze.
