Country singer Randy Travis awake, to be off ventilator soon
DALLAS – Doctors said country singer Randy Travis is now awake and stabilized Tuesday.
Last week Travis had emergency surgery to relieve pressure on his brain following a stroke.
The performer’s doctors said he has cardiomyopathy, scaring on his heart which weakens the muscle.
Medical officials said this condition is not caused by drugs or alcohol.
His doctors said his brain scans show decreased swelling.
As of Tuesday, Travis was breathing with the help of a ventilator but doctors said they hope to take him off the device soon and have him breathing on his own.
