Police were called and he revealed to them he had been beaten with a hammer.
Master Sergeant Gary Knight, with the Oklahoma City Police Department, said, “His lower extremities were injured to the point he couldn’t walk, he could only crawl.”
A horrible crime police say happened near N.E. 23rd and Kelham in Oklahoma City Monday afternoon.
Knight said, “It appeared his feet and legs were broken or badly injured.”
According to police, he was taken by someone to a friend’s house where police were called. The teen told police he had been beaten with some type of hammer or mallet. Police questioned and later arrested 59-year-old Elizabeth Alberty. The teen told police she is his mother.
NewsChannel 4 stopped by her house. A woman claiming to be her sister answered and said Elizabeth was still in jail. She didn’t want to comment on camera but said she hopes the teen is okay. She said she hasn’t been allowed to see him.
As for the teen, police say he was small for his age and appeared to be malnourished.
Knight said, “On the surface it looks like a case of failure to thrive. It’s certainly something we are going to be involved in, DHS is going to be involved in, and we’ll see what the medical reports show.”
Elizabeth Alberty was arrested on one count of a caretaker engaging in child abuse or neglect. Police were not able to update us on the teen’s condition because he is a minor and DHS is involved.
