OKLAHOMA CITY – Tornado victims who initially thought they couldn’t rebuild their homes now said they believe they will be given building permits to start construction.
City officials said they will consider allowing several families to rebuild in a flood way.
The neighborhood is near May Ave. and S.W. 149th St.
“They think they have figured out a way to let us rebuild,” homeowner Jennifer Wisooker said. “They have said they are almost certain that we will be able to rebuild.”
According to the city, there are homes in the neighborhood that are located in an area designated as a flood way.
City officials initially said it was unclear if they could give permits to build new homes in these types of areas because of FEMA requirements.
The city council is expected to consider the matter next week.
The Board of Adjustment will also schedule a special meeting to hear the case in mid-August.
