Texas shoplifter shot and killed by off-duty officer

CONROE,TX -- An off-duty police sergeant was placed on administrative leave after shooting and killing a shoplifting suspect.

Around 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, Walmart loss prevention officers attempted to detain a shoplifting suspect at the store in Conroe, Texas.

According to reports, the suspect ran from the loss prevention officers, who then started chasing him.

An off-duty Conroe police sergeant saw the officers chasing the suspect and offered to help them with the pursuit.

Police said the off-duty officer chased the suspect into a wooded area southwest of the store.

Once in the wooded area to the southwest of the store, police said the officer got into a violent struggle with the suspect. During the struggle, the suspect started choking the sergeant; fearing for his life, the sergeant shot the suspect, killing him.
