Couple accused of stealing from storm victims
CANADIAN COUNTY, OK — Two Canadian County residents are accused of stealing copper from a storm victims house. It happened at Kenneth Johnston’s house – one badly damaged by the tornadoes that rolled through Little Axe on May 19th.
Police say 59-year-old Eddie McManus and 50-year-old Kathy Butler broke into the home and ripped copper out of the house by stealing what remained of the electrical wire.
A neighbor noticed what was happening and confronted the pair, who were later arrested at the Lake Thunderbird Casino.
Johnston says he worries he is not the only homeowner victimized.
“From what I saw of the copper that was in the backseat of that car, I am sure of it.,” said Johnston.
The pair face drug charges, and charges of concealing stolen property.
