Two killed in UPS plane crash at Birmingham airport

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A large plane crashed while trying to land at the Birmingham, Alabama, airport early Wednesday morning.

At least three explosions followed after the UPS cargo plane went down in an open field near the airport.

The FAA confirmed two pilots were on board but have not released their conditions or identities yet.

However, Birmingham Mayor William Bell is saying the pilot and co-pilot were killed in the crash.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the accident has not affected airport operations.
