McAlester school collapse extends summer vacation
MCALESTER, Okla. – School is canceled Thursday for some McAlester students after the school started caving in Wednesday.
No students were in Parker Middle School during the collapse but teachers preparing for the first day of school had to evacuate.
Officials said several classroom windows popped out, water poured down the hallways and parts of the building started to crack.
It’s not clear why the building began to shift so suddenly.
Structural engineers have been called in to make the assessment.
For now, the students can enjoy an extension of their summer vacation.
