OKC homeowner catches crooks on camera
OKLAHOMA CITY – Police are working to track down suspects after a home burglary in southeast Oklahoma City was caught on camera.
The resident installed the surveillance system for personal protection and now police are using the video to find the culprits.
In the video, two men are seen breaking into a house on the 3300 block of S.E. 54th St., scanning the hallway and looking into rooms.
The resident wasn’t home at the time but the victim told police this wasn’t the first time his home has been burglarized.
“He had actually been the victim of a previous burglary in the recent past, so he decided to install surveillance cameras in his house,” OKC police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.
The cameras seem to have paid off, providing a clear image of one of the suspects.
“A black male, light-skinned, in his 20s,” Wardlow said. “He also has braids in his hair, you can see that very clearly.”
After forcing their way inside, police said the suspects were in and out of the house within five minutes, enough time to get away with some electronics, which included an LCD TV and a laptop computer.
It wasn’t long before the second suspect, who covered his face, realized his every move was being recorded.
“He does realize there are cameras and he pulls them down,” Wardlow said.
Not before investigators got a good look.
Police said having the images helps their case and said the victim is taking all the right steps to protecting his property.
“He’s done everything right, everything that he possibly can, obviously installing the cameras was just another step,” Wardlow said.
