Power company using dogs to help restore power after outage
OOSTERHOUT, Netherlands – A Dutch power company is using a unique tool to locate and restore electricity in the event of an outage.
The company is testing sniffer dogs to track malfunctioning power cables.
The dogs have been trained to smell toluene which is released when a short-circuit occurs.
The company manager said workers do not have to go into people’s homes to find the problem since the dogs can find the circuit within less than two feet.
