Couple injured in Shawnee tornado win $10,000 in furniture
OKLAHOMA CITY — There is an update on an Oklahoma couple who was caught on I-40 when a massive tornado touched down near Shawnee last May.
Gary and Suzan Whaley spotted the deadly tornado. That’s when Gary pulled off the interstate.
When the storm turned it picked up their car and slammed it to the ground.
Gary was left in critical condition and their dog, rocky, was nowhere to be found.
Four days later Suzan learned a highway worker had found their dog. His leash was wrapped around a pile of debris. The family was reunited.
During the past several months Gary has been recuperating and now Gary and Suzan Whaley join Linda Cavanaugh in the KFOR studios to tell us how they’re doing. Not only did they survive an EF4 tornado, on Friday they learned they were among the winners in our recent St. Jude Giveaway.
They won the $10,000 furniture prize package in the recent contest. It has been an eventful year for the Whaleys and we want to congratulate them on their win.
