TULSA, Okla.- Authorities say a 61-year-old prison inmate is facing more jail time for filing false tax returns from his cell.
Officials say Donald Lee Grayson was charged with filing false federal income tax refund claims in the names of three fellow prison inmates.
He gained access to a laptop and then discovered the bank accounts of the inmates.
Investigators say Grayson electronically filed the tax returns and received a refund of $14,226.
A prison guard ultimately discovered the scam after noticing the power card of the computer in Grayson’s cell.
Grayson was sentenced to 18 months in prison per count with each sentence running concurrent with the others.
He is also required to pay restitution.
