Parent punishes boy by making him hold up bully sign
MOORE, Okla. – An eight-year-old dealt with a unique punishment Wednesday evening after he got into a fight a school. It had drivers down in Moore stopping to talk to him and his mother.
Malachi Peterson’s mother made him hold up a sign on at Telephone Rd. and Fourth St. that said “I picked a fight because I’m a bully!”
His mother, Janie Peterson, says she got a call from his school while she was at her second job. The Principal told her that her little boy started a fight over a girl.
“Me and a boy were fighting over a girl,” said Malachi. “Whoever won the fight, they got to be the girl’s boyfriend.”
“I was furious,” said his mother.
“Malachi never actually put a hand on the other boy, but he was the instigator. He told the boy let’s fight,” said Janie Peterson. “He’s eight years old. First off, there’s no reason for him to be all about a girl right now, and second off, assault is assault whether you’re eight or 88. I’m not going to put up with it.”
What she decided to do about it did not go unnoticed.
“One person gave me a thumb down, and people have been saying stop the bullying,” said Malachi.
“All the other reactions have been good parenting way to go,” said Janie.
Malachi tells us, he’s been thinking while holding the sign, maybe no one wins a fight.
His mother says she plans on making him hold up the sign until he admits he was wrong. The school suspended him for three days.
