(Norman)—
The Sooners had a shaky opening quarter in their 2nd football game of the season.  OU’s offense almost gave up an early safety or even a West Virginia touchdown when QB Trevor Knighrt couldn’t handle a wild snap and chased it back to the Sooners-1.  Knight was also called for intentional grounding on the play, but at least OU still had possession.
Oklahoma’s offense was still off-kilter and then the defense gave up a huge play.  West Virginia RB Dreamius Smith (how’s that for a name) broke at least FOUR Sooner tackles and then ran away from the OU secondary for a 75-yard TD run to give the visiting Mountaineers a 7-0 lead.
OU eventually put together a little drive that resulted in a 44-yd. FG from Michael Hunnicutt and that’s how the first period ended…West Virginia leading 7-3.
