Group asking Okla. Supreme Court to throw out new workers’ comp. law

Workers comp

OKLAHOMA CITY – The Professional Firefighters of Oklahoma are asking the Oklahoma Supreme court to throw out a new law that overhauls Oklahoma’s Workers’ Compensation system.

Several lawmakers and the firefighters gave Oklahoma’s highest court about a dozen reasons why they think the law is unconstitutional.

The key argument, the changes violate a requirement of the state Constitution; limiting a bill to only one issue.

The new workers’ comp. law is set to take effect Feb. 1.

A hearing on the challenge is now scheduled for Oct. 16.
