Weekend: 2013 AIDS Walk OKC

OKLAHOMA CITY — Runners and walkers alike are gearing up for the 2013 OKC AIDS Walk, Sunday, Sept. 22 in downtown Oklahoma City.

AIDS Walk board members Lisa Pitsiri & James Siderias chat with NewsChannel 4's Ali Meyer about the upcoming event, which will feature a walk, a run, & a doggie fashion show.

This year again includes a 5k run.

The Thunder girls will be on hand to cheer on participants.

PLUS, the AIDS Walk Board has secured a special appearance by Pistol Pete!

RED Run Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. for the 5th annual 5k run at the Bricktown Ballpark.

Sponsored by Dell, the run begins at 9 a.m. Registration is $25 the day of the run.

The 5K run is sanctioned and certified by “USA Track & Field.”

The entry fee also includes a T-shirt, fruit, water and a swag bag. Medals given to everyone who participates. We've secured a $1,200 purse for our winners this year..                           

  • 1st prize = $300
  • 2nd prize = $200
  • 3rd prize = $100

Registration for the walk and pooch parade begins at 12:30 p.m. at the Myriad Botanical Gardens, with the fashion show starting at 1 p.m.

All dogs in the parade must be in costume and on a leash.

The walk steps off at 2 p.m. As always the event is free and open to the public.
