ELK CITY, Okla. - After the remains of six people were discovered in a lake decades after they went missing, many residents began speculating about the tragic find.
A 1969 Camaro and a 1950′s Chevy were found when officials were testing new sonar equipment at Foss Lake last week.
Inside those vehicles were the remains of six people
The medical examiner says it could take years to positively identify the victims.
The Camaro may have belonged to Jimmy Allen Williams, who was last seen with Thomas Rios and Leah Johnson.
The teens disappeared in 1970 and have not been heard from since.
The Chevy may have belonged to Alvie Porter, who was out with Nora Duncan and Clayburn Hammock.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol told the Daily Elk Citian that factual evidence leads them to believe that it was simply an accident that both vehicles ended up in the lake, rather than foul play.
A mechanic told the newspaper that the Camaro may have been going too fast and hit the water, which caused a bit of damage to the car’s undercarriage.
The Chevy had mechanical brakes and had to be pushed to be started.
According to the paper, the vehicle did not suffer any additional damage.
