Attorney General charges pool contractor with five counts of embezzlement
OKLAHOMA CITY — Attorney General Scott Pruitt Thursday charged the owner of Cabanas Plus Exotic Poolscapes in an embezzlement scheme related to the installation of in-ground swimming pools.
According to the charges filed in Cleveland County District Court, Stephan Edgar Cook, 40, was charged with five counts of embezzlement and one count of a pattern of criminal offenses.
Agents with the AG’s Public Protection Unit began an investigation of the company after receiving numerous complaints from customers, who said they paid for work that Cook never completed. According to the charges, Cook embezzled more than $1,000 from each homeowner.
“Fraud is a serious issue in Oklahoma and we will hold accountable those individuals who take advantage of our citizens,” Pruitt said. “We encourage consumers to contact our office if they believe they have been victims of fraud.”
