And the winner is… Veterans Memorial Park in Moore!
From LivePositively.com and Coca Cola.
This summer, thousands of you got active on behalf of your favorite parks. And thanks to you, Veterans Memorial Park in Moore, Oklahoma won the title of “America’s Favorite Park” with more than 400,000 votes and 16,000 hours of activity.
You rallied around Veterans Memorial Park and nearly 12,000 others to make the “America Is Your Park” campaign a huge success. And in the end, four lucky parks won grants to help restore, rebuild or enhance activity areas where people can play and be active.
Veterans Memorial Park won a $100,000 recreation grant that will be used to help rebuild a playground after it was destroyed by a tornado earlier this year.
The park leapt to the top of the leaderboard when other communities, including previous grant winners whose parks were also damaged by natural disasters, rallied around it. They organized voting drives at local events and engaged celebrities to encourage voting.
“Recovering from the tornado has been difficult, but the rebuilding efforts have strengthened our community and brought us all closer together,” said Todd Jenson, Parks and Recreation Director, City of Moore. “The support and love our town received from all over the country is overwhelming. Thanks to Coca-Cola and everyone who voted, we can rebuild Veterans Memorial Park and new memories.”
People logged daily fitness activities, attended field day events, and had good old-fashioned fun outdoors on behalf of national, state and local parks this summer. All of this active, healthy fun amounted to more than 72,000 hours of activity and more than 1.4 million votes.
Now that you’ve gotten a jump start to an active, healthy lifestyle, keep it going. “Take It To The Park” year round and keep on showing your parks the love!
