Former Oklahoma A&M basketball star Bob Kurland died at his home in south Florida on Sunday at the age of 88.

Kurland was a three-time consensus first-team All-American at OSU, in the days when it was known as Oklahoma A&M.

He led the Aggies to back-to-back NCAA championships in 1945 and ’46, as A&M became the first team to ever win consecutive national titles.

Kurland also earned gold medals playing for the U.S. Olympic basketball team in the 1948 and 1952 Games.

He was one of the first big men to make a national impact in college basketball, and his size and talent overwhelmed most of his opponents.

Kurland was inducted into the second class of the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 1987, and was also inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame and the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
