National Weather Service cancels storm spotter training for government shutdown
NORMAN, Okla. – The National Weather Service has canceled their storm spotter training because of the government shut down on Tuesday.
Officials said they hope the webinars will be rescheduled in the future but no date has been set.
While the webinar was canceled, officials at the National Weather Service in Norman say workers will not be furloughed.
A statement from the National Weather Service read, “We will continue to work our normal shifts and perform the same basic duties as before, with our full focus being on providing forecasts, warnings and other information to support our life and property mission.”
The National Weather Service says they will continue to maintain their presence on social media but there may be broken links on their website as other sites are shut down.
In the meantime, they encourage everyone to check their Skywarn page for training resources and information.
