Sooner fan helps Longhorn fan in need during OU/Texas weekend
DALLAS, TX — Rivalry no more, well at least between two OU/Texas fans.
One Longhorn fan is thanking a Sooner fan for his good deed at the Cotton Bowl last weekend.
Saying Jarrod Tahsequah is a die hard OU fan is an understatement. He was brought up to hate the longhorns.
When he saw a Texas fan in need at the Cotton Bowl last weekend, he didn’t hesitate to come to the rescue.
As thousands of fans were rushing by trying to make it to their seats before kickoff Tahsequah saw an older man in a burnt orange shirt struggling up the stairs to get to his seats.
“Whenever I saw him I didn’t see an orange shirt or a red shirt,” says Tahsequah. “I just saw someone that needed assistance.”
This die hard Sooner fan put aside his Longhorn hatred for just a minute, took the Texas fan’s arm and helped him to his seats just in time for kickoff.
The two became instant friends, snapping a photo before the game started and keeping in touch days later through Face-time.
Tahsequah says even though the game didn’t turn out the way he wanted, he would help this Texas fan any day.
“I was brought up to respect and honor my elders so whenever I saw him it was just the right thing to do,” says Tahsequah. “I really don’t feel like I did anything special.”
Jim Robertson and his daughter Jana disagree. Robertson told Tahsequah he wasn’t sure how he was going to make it up the stairs before he came along and made plans to meet up next year when their two favorite teams meet again.
Jana Robertson says, “Hopefully we will still be at Gate G and we can meet at the bottom of the stairs and you can help dad back up next year because we might have a hard time next year!”
“It’s a plan!” says Tahsequah. “We’ve got it!”
Just like that, an instant OU/Texas friendship.
Robertson and his family sent the Tahsequah’s Thanksgiving ham and turkey to again say thank you from the bottom of their hearts.
