SACRAMENTO — A Sacramento County Sheriff’s K-9 is recovering after he was shot in the chest during a stolen vehicle pursuit Friday morning.
The 6-year-old dog was identified as Drago. His handler is John Halk, a sheriff’s deputy.
“The bullet went through and through from the chest to the shoulder,” sheriff’s department spokeswoman, Lisa Bowman, said.
The suspect later died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after being surrounded by a SWAT team.
