Hyundai recalls thousands of luxury cars due to brake failure
NEW YORK - Thousands of luxury cars are being recalled after federal officials received dozens of complaints about problems with the vehicles’ brakes.
Hyundai is recalling 27,500 Genesis Luxury cars to fix issues with the brakes.
The recall covers Genesis Luxury cars from the 2009 through 2012 model years.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced that it has received 23 complaints from owners, claiming they have to push harder than usual on the brakes to get the car to stop.
In fact, the failing brakes caused one driver to crash.
Hyundai officials say gel can build up on valves in the braking system, which causes them to fail.
Car dealers will pick up the cars from customers’ homes and give those owners loaner vehicles.
The recall comes just hours after an announcement by federal regulators, saying they were investigating the complaints.
