FDA warning pet owners about jerky treats sickening, killing pets
WASHINGTON – Authorities with the Food and Drug Administration are warning pet owners about treats making animals sick Wednesday.
FDA officials said thousands of illnesses have been reported recently after pets ate jerky treats.
Agency officials said almost 600 cats have died.
They said this is one of the most elusive and mysterious outbreaks they have encountered.
According to the FDA, most of the offending treats come from China; however, it has not been able to pinpoint a particular brand.
Officials said your best bet is to avoid jerky treats altogether until the outbreak can be stopped.
