Busted! Pentagon called out for $300M ‘tax dollar waste’ in form of blimp
WASHINGTON – Busted! This is the giant airship the Pentagon reportedly spent almost $300 million developing.
Now, after the project has been scrapped, it is being sold for less than 1 percent of what it cost to make.
Officials commissioned the seven-story, blimp-like aircraft that could hover over war zones for up to three weeks during the height of the Afghanistan war.
However, $297 million later, the failed ship was sold back to the company that made it for a bargain of $301,000.
It might sound like a complete waste of tax dollars but Army officials said it was anything but.
They said what the learned from the technology will save money in the long run.
