Gunman committed suicide after shooting in a New Jersey mall
PARAMOUS, NJ – A gunman who entered a New Jersey mall Monday night committed suicide early Tuesday morning.
Richard Shoop, 20, who later shot himself in the head, fired six shots before he barracked himself in a back room of the mall, according to CNN.
Shoop was the only one injured in the shooting.
“We know that his intent was either suicide or to do something that would cause police to shoot him, which we call ‘suicide by cop,’” Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli told CNN.
The shooting started just before the mall closed and forced stores into lockdown.
Authorities said Shoop used his brother’s gun in the shooting and was a known drug user.
