‘Biggest Loser’ trainer Jillian Michaels breaks the rules, Ruben Studdard returns

“Biggest Loser” viewers who were shocked by last week’s ouster of fan favorite Ruben Studdard were no doubt even more surprised about the turn of events that rocked Tuesday night’s episode — but at least they won’t be missing Ruben anymore.

That’s because near the end of the episode, as players filed in for the weekly weigh-in, it was revealed that a big scandal involving trainer Jillian Michaels called for a big do-over.

“Before you all step on the scale, there is something important that needs to be addressed,” host Alison Sweeney warned. “Last week, Jillian broke the rules and gave caffeine supplements to each member of her team without doctor’s permission.”

Because of the unauthorized supplements, Jillian’s white team received a 4-pound penalty — that’s 1 pound per team member. And “for fairness reasons,” the previous week’s results were declared “invalid.”

That meant Bob Harper’s blue team had their previously won immunity restored. And Dolvett Quince’s red team? They’ll get Ruben back.

As for the scandal behind all the action, Jillian was given a chance to have her say about what she did. But if Bob, Dolvett or any of the contestants on their teams expected an apology from the no-holds-barred trainer, they certainly didn’t get it.

“I stand by my opinion, a caffeine supplement is significantly healthier than unlimited amounts of coffee,” Jillian said, dodging the real issue — that giving out the supplements without medical approval is against the rules of the competition, which isn’t a matter of opinion.

“My only regret is that my team, they’re the ones suffering the consequences of my professional opinion.”

But ultimately, the white team didn’t suffer anything more than embarrassment over the incident. Oh, sure, they lost the weekly weigh-in (which resulted in Craig Arrington  being ousted), but it wasn’t due to that 4-pound disadvantage. Even without it, they would have lost to the red team.
