The Sooners and Cowboys are going bowling.
But their destinations were a surprise.
When OU shocked OSU in Stillwater, Saturday, the Cowboys’ Big 12 title dreams disappeared.
So did OSU’s logo on these shirts.
“We would have started right after the game,” Gold Star Graphics Owner Pam Guffey said Monday.
Gold Star was set to print OSU Big 12 Conference champion logos on 12,000 orange, black and charcoal t-shirts.
But now, all 12,000 are boxed up and leaving town – blank.
“Oh, it’s gotta be devastating,” Guffey said, “because they thought they were going to win.” OU fan Drew Alexander braved the freezing cold to witness the upset.
“OSU fans behind us were cussing, all these Sooners fans were up on their feet, jumping,” he recalled. “It was fun.”
Now, he’ll follow the Sooners to a BCS bowl game.
He bought one of the 17,500 tickets given to OU Monday to the Sugar Bowl against Alabama.
“The site was a little slow,” Alexander said. “Everybody was freaking out wanting tickets as soon as they popped up.”
The Cowboys box office tells us they received 12,000 tickets for the Cotton Bowl against Missouri.
Scooter Proctor with OklahomaTickets.com says Sugar Bowl tickets start around $200, all the way up to a $36,000 suite.
“The Alabama fans, they’ll show up no matter who they’re playing,” he said.
OSU Cotton Bowl tickets against Missouri were starting for $140 online.
Michelle Carbone, owner of Michelle’s Destinations Unlimited, says a three-night stay in New Orleans’ french quarter – with air fare – would cost about $1,200 to $1,500.
But that doesn’t include tickets to the game.
“You could see the ticket prices go up quite a bit just because they do allow scalping in Louisiana,” she said.
The Cotton Bowl website says tickets have sold out, but OSU has not sold out of their ticket allotment.
OU says they’re still working through their season ticket holders list, and remaining tickets will be available Tuesday.
USA Screen Printing tells us they will have Sugar Bowl and Cotton Bowl shirts printed and in stores later this week.
