8 days until Christmas: Rush to the finish begins
NEW YORK – It’s a potential record-setting day for one of the nation’s largest shipping companies.
UPS expects to deliver 29 million packages worldwide over the next few days, averaging out to a package every three seconds.
Analysts say online shopping has created a tidal wave of shipping, which is up eight percent over last year.
According to a recent survey, almost half of those surveyed said they will finish last-minute shopping from their laptop or smart phone.
Wesley Harris, with UPS, said, “It’s given the consumers the opportunity to shop later, essentially compressing the shopping season.”
Also, Toys R Us is set to open its doors for a shopping marathon.
Stores nationwide will open Saturday at 6 a.m. and will stay open around the clock until 9 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Shoppers will also be able to purchase items online and pick them up in the store within an hour.
