Away from home; U.S. troops celebrate Christmas in Afghanistan
OKLAHOMA – While most of us spent Christmas with our families, don’t forget about our military men and women who couldn’t be home for the holidays.
Right now, 40-thousand American troops are still deployed in Afghanistan, spending their holiday away from their families.
But they did get the chance to do some celebrating.
In camp Phoenix in Kabul, the dining hall dished out 22 thousand pounds of turkey yesterday for Christmas dinner.
Special care packages were also handed out to the soldiers.
Fortunately, for most of them, this will likely be the last Christmas in Afghanistan before coming home, as the U.S. prepares to withdraw most troops by next summer.
