According to EMSA officials, they’ve seen their biggest spike in heart troubles for the year during the last week.

Oklahoma City EMSA has responded to more than 130 cardiac related calls since December 20th, with Christmas and the day after being their busiest days.

Medics attribute emotional stress, over indulgence and the holiday hustle and bustle to the increase in heart attacks in Oklahoma City.

Studies across the nation have dubbed it “holiday heart syndrome”. Oklahoma City medics say the holiday season puts more stress on the heart than any other time of the year.

They recommend knowing your family’s heart history, keeping your exercise regimen through the holidays and keeping the holiday meals light. Overall, medics say the best way to avoid heart troubles during the holiday season is to slow life down.
