GUTHRIE, Okla. – The Dollar General in Guthrie is joining its other Oklahoma stores by selling low point beer, and it could happen as early as next week.
“Well let them sell what they want to sell. Why not sell it here as well as down the street somewhere?”
But not every patron feels the same. Some believe selling beer will make the store less family friendly.
“If you put beer in there it’s not going to be family oriented,” Steve Mead, customer, said.
A spokesperson for Dollar General says the company is phasing beer sales into many of its Oklahoma stores. In fact, Crescent began selling the adult beverage last October.
In a statement company officials say selling beer is consistent with the company’s standards.
“In keeping with Dollar General’s business model of providing value and convenience to customers every day, we recently applied to make low-point beer available for purchase at our store in Logan County. Dollar General is sensitive to community concerns and abides by all applicable laws…”
And you’ll know if a Dollar General is planning on selling the low point beer because they’ll be posting a sign around the door area once that license is filed.
“It’s just a little shocking because it`s a dollar store. Is the beer going to be a dollar? I don’t know how I feel about it,” Customer Merlena Osborn said.
