Sooners End Drought in Austin
Oklahoma’s men’s basketball team hit 13 three-pointers and had five players in double figure scoring on their way to an 88-85 win over Texas at the Erwin Center in Austin, Texas, on Saturday night.
OU was led by Buddy Hield’s 22 points and four 3-pointers.
Three other Sooners hit three shots from beyond the arc, with Tyler Neal and Isaiah Cousins both scoring 13 points, and Frank Booker 9.
Ryan Spangler was also in double figures with 11 points, while Jordan Woodard added 12.
OU led by as many as 12 points in the first half, but fell behind by seven in the second half, before making several big shots to get the upper hand.
Cousins was ejected late in the game for an elbow he threw at UT’s Demarcus Holland.
The Sooners were outshot 51 percent to 43 percent from the field, but hit 13 of 28 from 3-point range, and outrebounded the Longhorns by 11.
It was Oklahoma’s first win in Austin since 2005.
The Sooners blew a 22-point lead in the final eight minutes last year in Austin and lost to Texas in overtime.
OU improves to 12-2 on the season with the win in the Big 12 opener.
The Sooners host Kansas on Wednesday at 6:00.
