School bus accidentally hits wheelchair-bound pedestrian near OKC hospital
OKLAHOMA CITY – Emergency crews rushed to the scene of an accident near a hospital Tuesday afternoon, involving a school bus.
Authorities were called to the area of N.W. 55th and N. Portland Ave. after receiving a call about a school bus hitting a pedestrian.
Officials say the Putnam City school bus hit someone who was trying to cross the street in a wheelchair.
The call went out around 4 p.m. Tuesday afternoon.
Initial scanner reports say the accident happened in the 5500 block of N. Portland Ave., near Deaconess Hospital.
There were two teenagers on the bus at the time of the accident.
Fortunately, no one on the bus suffered any injuries.
There’s no word on the extent his injuries but the pedestrian is being transferred to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
Emergency crews have closed Portland Ave. at this time as they investigate the accident.
