‘They really need it,’ project packing Valentine’s Day boxes for troops overseas
OKLAHOMA CITY – The Hugs Project in Oklahoma City has one goal, to support our troops in the Middle East.
With Valentine’s Day around the corner, the organization is packing boxes of love for those who serve our country.
Mary Chartney said, “We’ve gotten letters that said it rocked their world.”
Chartney is a proud mom of a Navy Seabee.
She said when her son, Michael, was serving in Afghanistan, his biggest fear was being forgotten.
However, packages from The Hugs Project, stuffed with necessities and goodies, replaced that fear.
Chartney said, “Knowing someone cared enough to take the time to make it for them, what’s better than that?”
The Hugs Project could always use help sending these boxes.
It costs around $14 to send one package overseas.
Leah Tartt said, “They really need it.”
Tartt’s 22-year-old daughter, Jasmin, is serving in the Army.
She is currently deployed in Afghanistan.
While her daughter is serving our country, Tartt is helping take care of her grandson in Edmond.
She said she can’t wait for her daughter to get a special surprise on Valentine’s Day.
Tartt said, “She’s going to love it so much. She’s going think that people think about her, other than us.”
From survival bracelets, to travel-sized lotions and canned tuna, every care package is put together to help improve the quality of life for our dedicated troops.
At the same time, it sends a message that someone is thinking about them.
Chartney said, “This is a bright spot in their day.”
