Teacher arrested for taking shirt off little girl as punishment
MESA, Ariz. – An Arizona kindergarten teacher is facing charges after removing the shirt of a 6-year-old student in his class.
Police say 54-year-old Thomas Washburn was upset with his class and began yelling at them.
His actions scared a little girl, who then buried her face in her shirt.
Washburn then told her to take her face out of her shirt.
When she refused, he allegedly took her shirt off.
Officials say Washburn left her naked from the waist up for 10 minutes while the class continued.
Sonya Coronado, a parent at the school, said, “That is absolutely appalling and disgusting and if it was my child, I have two daughters that attend the school, there would be big time problems.”
Washburn has been charged with child abuse and 24 counts of indecent exposure, one count for every child in the room.
He’s also been placed on administrative leave.
