OKLAHOMA CITY – Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook are one step closer to the 2016 U.S. Olympic Team Thursday.
The players have been named to the 2014-2016 USA Men’s National Team pool Thursday.
The OKC Thunder said the 2014 USA World Championship team will be chosen from that pool.
Then, if the U.S. qualifies, the Olympic team will be chosen from that group.
According to the OKC Thunder, the pair were on the 2012 team in London.
Westbrook and Durant also helped the U.S. Men’s World Championship team to win a gold medal during the 2010 FIBA World Championships in Istanbul, Turkey.
A total of 28 players were named to the 2014-2016 USA Men’s National Team pool including Durant and Westbrook.
The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup will be Aug. 30 – Sept. 14 in Spain.
