So how will the United States get more than 200 American athletes out of Russia if some sort of terrorist attack happens in Sochi?
According to NBC News, U.S. military officials said they have warships in the Black Sea and planes on standby in Europe to evacuate in case of an emergency.
However, security experts told NBC any American rescue operation would depend on President Vladimir Putin’s approval.
“As far as being able to do things without Russian cooperation, it’s basically a nonstarter,” Andrew Weiss said, with the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, a former Russia expert in the Clinton White House and an NBC News analyst.
