We’re expecting big news today that could impact the future of a controversial pol pipeline project in our state.

The results of an environmental impact study into the Keystone XL Pipeline are due out this afternoon.

The results are seen as a key factor in determining whether the project will go ahead.

Construction on the southern half of the pipeline is already underway in Cushing.

If approved, the pipeline would carry 830,000 barrels of oil a day from Alberta, Canada, to the U.S. Gulf Coast.

Supporters said the project would reduce oil imports from unstable nations and create jobs at home but opponents warn against potential damage to the environment.

Officials said a final decision on the project may not come for several months but this study is a critical step in the process.
