WATCH OUT: Oklahoma mystery woman passing bogus government checks
EDMOND, Okla – Watch out Oklahoma. Someone is hitting store across the metro, passing very real looking U.S. treasury checks.
They looked identical to the tax return you’ll likely be getting in the mail very soon.
For years, Margie Miller worked retail for a family owned business. She’s seen her share of fraudulent checks at the register. But nothing as convincing as these.
It has U.S. Treasury on it. Also these numbers across the bottom, routing numbers. I would probably say this is authentic.”
Edmond Police and United States Secret Service are working in tandem to capture a mystery woman who’s been passing the bogus checks across the metro.
After hitting several Walmart’s in Edmond and Oklahoma City, the store’s loss prevention department issued a warning to be on the lookout for the woman.
There are security features built into these government checks.
Jenny Monroe with the Edmond Police Department said, “This paper from the government, when you touch it, it leaves a finger print. It’s heat censored. It’s woven into the paper so it’ll leave a mark. If it’s printed on any other paper, it’s obviously not authentic.”
