OKLAHOMA CITY – While the height of tax season is just around the corner, the Oklahoma Insurance Department has postponed an event to help tornado survivors sort though the overwhelming amount of paperwork that goes along with filing a return.

The department organized a “Tax Tips for Tornado Survivors” forum, which was originally scheduled for Tuesday evening.

However, officials say the forum has been postponed because of inclement weather.

“While we feel that the information scheduled to be presented this evening is very important for Oklahoma tornado victims, the safety of our residents is equally as important,” said Oklahoma Insurance Commissioner John Doak. “We want residents to be safe and stay off the roads tonight, if possible.”

The forum will be held at the Moore Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

To register, call the library at (405) 793-4349.

In the meantime, tornado victims are encouraged to call 1-800-522-0071 for help with insurance claims.
