Luther city leader arrested after allegedly stealing thousands
LUTHER, Okla. – A former city leader is in hot water for allegedly stealing town funds.
Donita Gayle Roby is accused of making unauthorized purchases using the town debit card and electronic checks.
In all, they say she spent $48,000 without authorization.
Roby is now facing nine felony counts, including embezzlement.
According to the probable cause affidavit, the purchases were discovered during a yearly audit and reported back in November.
Later that month, Roby was fired by the mayor after she allegedly admitted to using the money for personal use.
Roby also admitted to the mayor she hadn’t paid the town’s payroll taxes since September 2012.
On Tuesday, Roby surrendered to authorities at the Oklahoma County Detention Center.
She was released a short time later after posting bond.
