When her alarm went off, twenty year-old Kaylee Bellack had no idea the coming day would so profoundly change her life.

It came close to being her last day.

She was driving home late at night, when she fell asleep at the wheel.  Her car plunged twenty feet into a ravine, hidden from the view of others traveling on the highway.

Despite a compound fracture and a broken femur, she pulled herself towards the top of the ravine.  She passed out before she got there.

When she regained consciousness five hours later, she knew she had lost a lot of blood.  She was weak and in pain.  She knew her survival depending on someone coming to help her.

Kaylee started screaming for help.

Somehow, her voice carried more than a quarter of a mile to the home of Matt Bell.

He heard her cries and made his way down the ravine looking for Kaylee.

He finally found her, seriously injured.  Matt called 911 and stayed with the young woman until emergency crews were able to work their way down the ravine to her rescue.

Kaylee’s mother, Mindy Bellack, nominated Matt Bell for Spirit Bank’s Pay It Forward award.  Mindy credits Matt for saving her daughter’s life.
