OKLAHOMA – On Thursday, pay raises for teachers across the state came one step closer to reality at the Oklahoma State Capital.
House Bill 2313 will be heard by the House Appropriations Subcommittee for Common Education on Monday.
The measure would provide an annual adjustment to teacher salaries, bringing them to the regional average.
According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the average annual salary for an Oklahoma teacher is over $44,000.
That is compared to $48,000-a-year for other teachers in nearby states.
However, another state site shows a very different picture on pay.
According to Janet Barresi’s State Minimum Teacher Salary Schedule, a teacher with a bachelor’s degree and eight years experience makes $34,700-a-year.
On that site, it claims a teacher with a master’s degree and national board certification could only make $44,525-a-year after 24 years of experience.
