UPDATE: Suspect in custody, locked down elementary school in the clear
OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma City elementary school was put on lockdown as a precaution as police searched for a suspect nearby.
On Friday afternoon, authorities began searching for a suspect who led them on a short chase.
Initial scanner traffic indicates the man may have tried to steal a package from a porch.
Police believed the man was in the area of N.W. 12th St. and Villa, which caused a nearby elementary school to be put on lockdown.
Officials say Hawthorne Elementary School, located at N.W. 14th St. and Youngs, was put on lockdown around 12:15 p.m.
Around 12:40 p.m., authorities found a man matching the description of the suspect in the area of N.W. 12th St. and Villa.
He was taken into custody.
