OKLAHOMA CITY – One man is recovering from serious burns after a brush fire in his yard became out of control Sunday.

Authorities said the man told them he was burning leaves in his yard on the 1400 block of S.W. 37th St. just before 1. p.m. when the flames grew out of control.

Crews said the man tried to put out the fire himself and now has second and third-degree burns on about 20 percent of his body.

The man, whose name has not yet been confirmed, is in unknown condition at the hospital.

Fire crews said they want to remind residents to use extreme caution when burning during high fire danger.
