DENVER – A massive winter storm that targeted Colorado is blamed for multiple car accidents and the death of an Oklahoma woman.

Authorities say at least 45 cars were involved in two pile-ups on I-25 in Denver on Saturday morning.

Officials say at least 45 drivers were involved but the actual number could be closer to 60.

Traffic was stopped for hours as emergency personnel worked to clear the totaled vehicles on the treacherous roads.

Police say 20 people, including some children, were sent to area hospitals for treatment.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner says 61-year-old Rebecca Newkirk was pronounced dead from the crash.

Authorities say she lives in Stillwater.

Denver buses were called in to transport people who were not injured but whose cars were damaged.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says fluctuating temperatures made the roads particularly icy.
