Oklahoma City residents choose to ‘stick with Mick’ for fourth mayoral term

OKLAHOMA CITY – While four candidates were waiting to find out their fate in the Oklahoma City mayoral race, residents were voting to ‘stick with Mick.’

Mayor Mick Cornett won his fourth term as Oklahoma City’s mayor on Tuesday.

Shortly before 9 p.m., Cornett’s main opponent, Ed Shadid, conceded.

With all precincts reporting, Cornett swept the competition, winning 65 percent of the vote.

Cornett said, “We’re overwhelmed by the margin of the victory. We were concerned about voter turnout, especially the weather did not cooperate as well as it should have. We are just grateful to all the voters who got to their cars and got to the polls on Tuesday.”

Shadid followed with 32 percent of the vote.

If Mayor Mick Cornett finishes out his term, he will be the longest serving mayor of Oklahoma City.
