For years, many top medical experts have been promoting a diet that is low in fat for better health.

Now, an American researcher wants doctors to stop encouraging a low-fat diet to help reduce the risk of heart disease.

In an editorial, a leading U.S. cardiologist, Dr. James  DiNicolantonio, says diets low in saturated fats do not prevent heart disease.

In fact, he says the information is based on flawed data from the 1950’s.

He added the public fear that saturated fat raises cholesterol is “completely unfounded.”

The best diet to boost and maintain heart health is one low in refined carbohydrates, sugars and processed foods like the Mediterranean-style diet.
